The Challange
The company had fragmented the user experience by splitting core features into two separate apps—one for scheduling and a white-labeled third-party app for nutrition—creating a disjointed and confusing ecosystem.
The Friction
Users were forced to toggle between two incompatible interfaces with different login credentials and visual styles, leading to frustration and low adoption of the nutrition features.
The Goal
To execute a strategic unification of the ecosystem, deprecating the white-label app and integrating nutrition, workouts, and body tracking into the core scheduling app to create a single "Digital Home Base."
As Principal Product Designer, I identified the strategic failure of the two-app model and successfully lobbied the CEO for unification. I then led the UX integration of the new verticals, expanding the existing design system to support the new features.
The Solution
Unified Ecosystem: I architected the information architecture to seamlessly house Scheduling, Nutrition, and Coaching within a single application, removing the friction of app-switching.
System Expansion: I audited and evolved the existing design system (which was limited to scheduling) to support complex new data visualizations for workouts, body scans and meal planning.
Holistic Feature Integration: Designed the "Lifestyle" tab to live alongside bookings, allowing users to connect their gym attendance directly to their nutrition habits in one view.
The OUTCOME
Reduced Churn/Confusion: Eliminating the second app removed a major user pain point, simplifying the onboarding process for new members.
Increased Feature Adoption: Usage of nutrition and tracking features spiked once they were accessible within the primary app users were already opening to book classes.
Operational Efficiency: The company stopped paying licensing fees for the ineffective white-label app, consolidating resources into one proprietary platform.
